directed by Rhoda Gravador
Featuring: Sammy Dizon and Patrick Silvestre
A young woman, Reyna, moves to San Francisco from Stockton to live with her cousin, Santi. Best friends as children, they long for comfort and familiarity in each other's presence. As Reyna tries to find a cure for her health issues, they meet Uncle Frank, the neighborhood hilot. He comes across as an odd old uncle, who mindlessly rambles and in truth, heals nothing. But Uncle Frank becomes the catalyst that changes both of their lives as they wrestle with their taboo relationship and broken families. The Healer is a work-in-progress allegory about the Philippine American self's journey through the heart break of a broken home country, reinvention in a new world, and what it takes to heal the past. It is part of a larger work-in-progress play, "Reyna," a collection of short coming-of-age stories where the transition into adulthood isn't always so apparent.
